Week 2 - Reflecting on Critical Incidents

Identification

Challenges: Sleep, balancing listening and talking in a four person discussion, meal prepping for the week on Sunday but then trying to figure out how to mix up meals, trying to keep up with my work over the weekend and planning ahead, not being able to run in the mornings as I had originally scheduled but being able to run in the afternoon

Surprising: CPREE team meeting ice breaker, Mudd paper being read by others in the classroom, balancing, enjoyment on personal statement for NSF and research questions, car conversation on our way to Seattle University with Professor Turns and Ahmer about the theory around belongingness, community, identity in engineering education, email from Doctor Jimenez about STEM education being used in the classroom.

Tidbits of memory from the week: Conversation with Ridley about dub seminar, conversation with Mia about her race & when she tried to facetime me for 30mins about how the house was decorated, text from my dad, coding with Giovanna, drawing my analysis of the throwaway citations paper, learning sciences research meeting with NU

Unpacking

This week was my first full week of classes and I feel much better about having a rhythm. I've said this word before either to family or friends but thinking about why the word rhythm feels so salient to me is because I like plans, I like calendars and schedules. Even if my schedule is not rigid every week with the same meetings, classes, or events I like knowing there is a practice in place that works for me and that I can count on to be somewhat consistent.

With that, this week was also very hectic because I had my full course-load of 4 classes, with the NSF GRFP deadline coming up very soon and with all the things I am trying to test and figure out how they fit into my schedule (family facetime time, running time, workout time, eating time, tutoring time, etc.). I have been thinking that now I have a vibe for what the rhythm and the cadence of my week feels like I will be better able to spread out my work and use my weekend time efficiently. For example, I have been reading "How to Write a Lot" on my bus rides but what I could do this weekend is also print readings for papers that I can also use my time on the bus efficiently and productively.
